In response to this, RDT has developed a single, multi-function module that enables the
user to connect using any of these technologies, directly out of the box. This has been designed with the same high level of ease of use and integration that is standard with the rest of the Tempus design.

The result is that the users can rely on their Tempus to connect to the Response Centre
in the air, on the ground or at sea, no matter what communications technology is available
in their location.

Communications Provided by MCI
The MCI module provides the user with:

• 2 integral modems for 2k4baud voice and data connections over traditional
  Inmarsat satcoms

• RDT's proprietary Digital Simultaneous Voice and Data (DSVD) technology for single modem calls over landlines or broadband satcoms systems such as Swift 64. This is optimised for use over satcom where the use of Voice Over IP (VoIP) is more challenging because of satellite delays.

• Integral tri-band GSM cell phone for use in land or close to shore application

• Integral Ethernet and WiFi communications for accessing broadband satcoms systems that use wired or wireless Ethernet access such as MAS3000i/Swift 64 installations, Connexion by Boeing etc.

• 2 integral serial interfaces for using 2k4baud satellite terminals
  such as Iridium or Mini-M.

• 1 DSVD enabled serial interface for using 9k6baud or greater satellite terminals such as Thuraya and GAN, F77 and Inmarsat B etc.

Ease of Use
RDT's MCI technology is fully featured, not only in terms of the number and variety of communications options that it provides but also in the ease with which the user can switch from one option to another.

RDT has removed the need for the user to know anything more than where they are
and which technology they want to use to connect with. Pressing two buttons, one to bring up a menu and one to select the type of connection is all that is needed to quickly and completely reconfigure the system for the user's needs.

The MCI enabled Tempus then provides the user with a complete set of context sensitive connection instructions that are specific to that type of connection being used.
