RDT has developed a unique DSVD technology that allows the simultaneous transmission of real-time full duplex speech and data over low bandwidth, high latency data channels such as a single GSM channel or the type of low quality phone line likely to be found in countries with a poor communications infrastructure.

This technology is built into Tempus as an optional module or
can be supplied to other manufacturers as an OEM communications module.

Why is DSVD Important?
In many locations, and on many vessels, the user of the Tempus will only have a single,
low-bandwidth communications channel available e.g. a single poor quality landline in
a hotel room or single satcom phone line on a yacht. To successfully manage a medical incident, a voice link to speak to a physician and a data link to transmit the vital signs data
are needed. RDT has solved this dilemma with DSVD.
How does DSVD Work?
In order to enable users of the Tempus to transmit both voice and data simultaneously
over a single communications channel, RDT developed DSVD. In layman's terms,
DSVD takes the user's speech and the vital-signs data and converts both signals into a
single stream of digital data.

This is then transmitted over whatever communications technology the user requires
e.g. GSM, landline or satcom such as Thuraya. This information is then received at the
Response Centre and decoded back into its constituent voice and data channels which
are then received normally i.e. a voice call into the Response Centre Operator's telephone
and a data call into their PC. A key aspect of DSVD is that the voice call is received over
a normal phone not on a computer head set. This allows it to integrate easily with existing
call centre infrastructure.

Communication over DSVD is full duplex i.e. the technology enables users at both ends
of the link to communicate with each other simultaneously whilst simultaneously receiving
all data in real time.

Communications Technology for Use with DSVD
DSVD can be used over any communications link with a bandwidth of 9k6baud
or more such as:
