New Simphone Enables Tempus Medical
Emergency Airborne Capability
RDT are pleased to announce successful testing of their Tempus medical device with the new Simphone (pronounced ‘symphony’) system developed by Ontario-based TrueNorth Avionics.
Says Christian Hannan, RDT’s UK-based Operations Manager: “Since the Tempus device enables people to send their vital signs data to ground-based doctors for fast diagnosis and treatment support, it is essential they secure a quick and easy connection. Our recent tests with TrueNorth’s Simphone¯ system confirm that it enables our customers to do just that,” Hannan said. “The testing could not have gone better, and RDT customers can be reassured they will not need to have their Tempus units re-commissioned when switching to or installing this system. This joint testing initiative with TrueNorth is part of our on-going program of customer service activities for which we’ve already earned an outstanding reputation.” Hannan concluded.
“We’re gratified that RDT, with its outstanding reputation for quality, was so impressed with the Simphone¯ system and its ability to send and receive lifesaving emergency data,” said Mark van Berkel, TrueNorth’s president. “And while most people will continue to use Simphone¯ for routine communications, we’re glad to be able to also serve as the link for this important service to our customers.”
Simphone’s one-box airborne telecommunications solution not only provides a simple RS232 data port that doesn’t require speed reduction when used with the Tempus medical device, but it also provides two analogue ports that can be used for voice and can direct a data call to the Inmarsat system if fitted using prefix’s. The system also has a built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet router that can be used to direct traffic over the Inmarsat HSD if fitted. It is a very simple router with a web browsing interface.
