International Communications Group Develops Two-Way Voice And Data Link For Remote Medical Monitoring Device

(May 8, 2008)International Communications Group (ICG) announced today that it has created a successful interface between its line of NxtLink Iridium satellite communication systems and Tempus, a remote medical monitoring device produced by UK based RDT Ltd.   ICG’s NxtLink has been tested to prove that its transceivers provide Tempus with reliable access to an RS232 data port for data transmission as well as additional ports which can be used for fax or voice communications.

“Development of this interface between ICG and RDT means that the Iridium satellite communications network is available via NxtLink virtually anywhere on the ground, even in the most remote locations or aboard aircraft, to assist Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) or flight service personnel in dealing with potentially life-threatening situations,” noted Jeff Saucedo, ICG’s Vice President of Product Sales.        “Wherever they are, with NxtLink and Tempus, users can transmit vital signs to remote medical advisors and receive treatment support. The resulting time saved could be the difference between life and death,” he added.

“Tempus delivers fast access to medical infrastructure you trust.  It’s essential that Tempus users can secure a fast and easy connection to ground based doctors.  Our recent tests with ICG’s NxtLink confirm that this system enables them to achieve this reliably,” said Christian Hannan, RDT’s Operations Manager.

ICG’s NxtLink 400 incorporates four Iridium transceivers with an internal CTU that permits up to eight telephone connections for voice or data.  The NxtLink 220 is a three transceiver device which combines dual channels of global voice and 2400 BPS data service with a third Short Burst Data (SBD) channel.  The NxtLink 200 offers dual Iridium transceivers and can accommodate up to six telephone connections.
